I've been writing Indie songs for a number of years now.I decided to join Youtube to have some fun and help promote some of my original material. So I've recorded a load of cover versions of popular songs, and also uploaded my own songs. My blog is a chronology of how I'm getting on with Youtube. Which includes videos, comments and statistics.

Jeffstunes on Youtube

In response to:David and I'm a celebrity.

Thanks for surprising me :-)

I happened to see Coldplay live last Tuesday. They were pretty good.

I try my best to reply to comments. Every month things just seem to get busier and busier, and that's a good thing I suppose. Every time I think I've peaked on Youtube, it surprises me again. I get over 1,500 views a day now and about 100 emails a day along with it. When I go away for a few days and then look at my inbox, I'm staggered. Lol.
Plus I'm not going to be spending a lot of time on my computer over the next few months, as I will be organising the development of my second album.
I happened to be sitting at my computer when your message came in. I do remember exchanging a few messages with you a while back. I hope everything is going well on your end. If I don't reply to my messages, then please accept my apologies in advance. Also, thank you for the positive comment :)

Keep well, and all the best.
...but good effort anyway.
I am equally happy to help you in any way I can. I'm quite good at completing incomplete songs and have lots of ideas.
If you've got half an idea for a song, but are stuck with it, then run it by me. I might be able to fill in the gaps for you. It's all good experience. I've done a number of collabs in the past with a wide variety of musicians. It's helped me with my own progress :)

In response to:Bring down the government

Nothing I'm happy with, no. The stuff I do have on youtube is below par and not recorded properly. I'm working on a lot of new material at the moment and some of that will come out in the next few months.

Thanks for your interest :-)
I have a couple of fender guitars. Acoustic and electric. A Korg AX10B effects processor. AKG Mic, and a Behringer Tube Pre-Amp.
I sometimes use samples in my software for more realism when it comes to other instruments.
Do you have any of your music online Tom?
I wouldn't mind taking a listen :)

In response to:Bring down the government

It sounds like we have a very similar setup. I use a Digitech GNX2 guitar processor and a Rode NT1 mic into a Joe Meek VC3 pre-amp. I have a Spirit Mixer too, and with the computer that's it. Things have moved on a long way from when 1000s of pounds of kit was needed.

I think you don't really need much equipment now to make a good mix. Just good production skills, because a half decent computer with the right software can produce similar results to the pro equipment. The only essential things outside of that for me are my effects processor for my electric guitar. My tube pre-amp for the mic, and a good mic. Also any midi keyboard with key sensitivity, though that's not really essential if you have plenty of time on your hands to program the midi :)

In response to:Bring down the government

Ah, that explains it then. I thought it sounded like a particularly good musical interpretation! I record myself, and I know how much effort it takes to do such a good duplication as that.

But regardless of where the backing came from, your singing was excellent.

I used to have lots of outboard equipment, but now I'm just down to guitars, microphone, mixer and laptop.

Cheers, Tom.

In response to:Bring down the government

Thank you :)
No, I didn't make the music for this one, though I do make the music for some of my covers, and of course for my original songs. I have a respectable recording setup. I mainly use my computer, plus a selection of extra audio equipment.
The music for this one came off a karaoke disc :)

In response to:Bring down the government

Very effective cover. Did you make all the music to that yourself? You've duplicated the sound of the original very accurately. Good vocal performance too.

I'm guessing you have a pretty good multi-track recording facility?

Yes, the CD's took a while. I needed to re-arrange them anyway, but it took a while though. There were about 150 :)
