Using another hosting site.

by jeffstunes @ 2008-04-27 - 17:38:01

Having used Youtube for about 10 months now. Something I recognised was that you were limited on the quality of video and audio that you can have on there. If I uploaded a video with good quality stereo audio, youtube would convert down to mono and reduce it's quality. I managed to part resolve that issue with a free video converter that I found, Which allowed me to encode flash videos, and adjust the video and audio quality.
Recently, Youtube have started to cater for higher quality video and audio though.
All of this lead me to search for another Youtube type site that would allow higher quality, and I came across a site called Livevideo. I decided that I would only put my original songs on thayt site. It doesn't have anywhere near the amount of traffic that Youtube gets, but I was ok with that. If people like my songs, and want to hear them in higher qaulity, then i can send them there.

Here's a link top my Livevideo page:

Jeffstunes Livevideo channel

As per usual. Here's the latest info on my Youtube statistics.

The aggregate viewing figures on my videos is 167,997.
I've had 11,668 visitors to my channel, and my subscriptions are now up to 563.

I shall be uploading another song to youtube soon. So that means I'll be posting soon too :)

Your emotional empires.

by jeffstunes @ 2008-04-20 - 22:06:37

Here's a really recent video. It was uploaded a little while ago!!
It's an original song that I put together over the last week or so.

So far, with my original material, the videos are comprised of image slideshows. So this one is a break from that pattern. This is my first Original song video that contains moving images. I wanted the content to reflect the meaning, and I reckon I've managed to achieve that.
The name of the song is "Don't wish it away". It's about those that want the days and years to be over. Maybe it's grief, or impatience. Or maybe something else. You'll notice things vanishing, and also things going in reverse. There is symbolism in all of this.

Take a look and see what you think:

Here's the regular digest of Youtube food (for me).
My subscribers are at a nice round 550.
The viewings of my channel are now 11,329, and the overall viewing figures all of my videos are now at 162,129.

I'm mulling over a cover version for my next video. I've got 3 in mind at the moment. They are "The air that I breathe" by the Hollies, "Running on faith" by Eric Clapton or "My father's eyes", also by Eric Clapton.

Jeffstunes - Sight Or Sound

by jeffstunes @ 2008-04-16 - 12:57:16

Now to the 63rd video. Finally I've got up to date with my videos.
This is an original song by me, called "Sight Or Sound".
I have been writing poems since before I was 10, and one of my favourite things to do, was to make puzzles out of my poems, and hide things within the words.
So it's no surprise really, that those elements ended up in some of my songs. This particular composition is one of the songs I played about with. In my video description, I ask if anyone can work out the meaning of the song, and if they can find the links within the words, music and video. I have only given the answers to those that have asked. I like it that some know, and some don't.
This was a song that I wrote early last year, and it features a very good friend of mine, and a very accomplished guitar player. He is "Steve Morgan". He has just got married, so I wish him the best for the future.
So I hope you enjoy the song, and the wonderful skills of Steve.

Here is the song:

Here's an update on the Youtube numbers.
542 Subscribers.
11,175 channel views.
158,875 total video views.

So I got there in the end. I've caught up with my video releases. So I can't really say what the next post is about, because I don't know myself yet. I suppose I'll know that, once I've decided what to upload next. Hmmm. An original, or maybe a cover :)

A collaboration - Traffic signals

by jeffstunes @ 2008-04-13 - 13:41:00

This next number was a collaborative effort with a Canadian musician. Before I started posting videos on Youtube, I was writing songs with various people, and he was one of them. He writes a lot of music, and was eager to co-write songs with other people. So he would send me the music that he created, and I would attempt to put words and a vocal melody to it. I suppose you could say it was similar to the Elton John and Bernie Taupin scenario. Only without the success :)
We did a number of songs together, and we were both happy with the results. In july, last year, I started posting up my videos to Youtube. Very ealy this year, I started to encourage my canadian musical friend to start posting his own music up to Youtube as well. He has grown very quickly on there, and that's no surprise to me. He is very talented.
Now to the point of the post, and the song in question. He posted up some music, inviting others to put words to it. It was a pretty good tune, as most of his are. I could hear the words in my head, so I proceeded to write the words and vocal melody. The resultant song was called "Traffic signals". With a lot of my videos, I've used images, and the images in this video are related to the meaning of the song.

So here it is:

If you like the music in this song, then I suggest you go and take a look at his Youtube channel. His username is 'Songvibe'. He's got a decent collection of songs on there already.

As per usual. This is the latest on the stats.
I've now got 539 Subscribers.
There are 11,121 channel views.
There are 156,734 overall video views. Up by a few more thousand

So to the next post. It's another original song that has a guest guitarist.

Original song - Take me home.

by jeffstunes @ 2008-04-10 - 12:02:29

Well, that's a week I was glad to get out of the way. My grandmother passed away two weeks ago, and the funeral was a couple of days ago. She was a wonderful woman, who I loved. She had a long life. She was 93.

In the early part of last year, I was taking part in music collaborations. One of these was with a Swedish man called Ulf. He is a very talented guy, and has retired from performing. He is now concentrating on composing, and is providing music for the film and television industry. His strengths are in the electronic side of music. I finished one song with him, which he wrote the music for, and I wrote the words and vocal melody. However, this is not that song. I only mention it because he wanted to have a go at doing the music for this song. It's something we didn't get around to doing, so this is totally by me. The name of the song is "Take me home".
It's about bad mistakes in relationships, that cause them to split. In the words, the person is begging for forgiveness.

Check out the song here.

Here's the latest on the stats.
My subscribers have been slowly increasing and are now at 534.
The channel views are now up at 11,121.
Another few thousand added to my total video views, so they now stand at 154,447.

The next video is a collaboration with a very talented canadian musician friend.

Video 60. All Ive got to do

by jeffstunes @ 2008-04-05 - 13:35:21

Now for something a little different. A good friend of mine asked me if I could do an alternative version of a Beatles song several months ago. The rules were that I couldn't pick any of their hit songs. I had to choose a lesser known song from one of their albums. So I went through all their albums and made a short list of 10 songs. Then I narrowed it down to a single song.
Penning my own material is normally quite easy, but this was more challenging than I initially thought. When I write my own songs, I can hear whole thing in my head. It's just a matter of interpreting that into real life. In the case of this song though, it already had music to it, and I had to try and clear that original music out of my mind, so that I could compose a new sound to it. It took a while, but I got there in the end.

See what you think:

My next video is another of my Original songs. One I wrote last year.

Now to round up with my Youtube figures.
The subs are now up to 526.
The viewings of my channel are 11,071.
The overall video views have topped 150k, and are now 150,542.

Almost up to a nice round 60 videos. This one is the 59th that I put up on youtube. This is one of those songs that is quite memorable. The reason for that is that it's quite a different song. It is "Mmm mmm mmm mmm" by the "Crash test dummies". Any of you that know the song, will know that the vocals in it are pretty low. A perfect opportunity for me to test out the depths of my vocal ability.

This is what it ended up like:

You might notice that I make a reference to a guy called Tay Zonday at the beginning. Any of you that have spent some time on Youtube will probably have heard of him. He rocketed to fame because of an original song of his on Youtube, called "Chocolate rain". It's quite a boring song, but the man is quite astounding. You really don't expect that sort of voice to come out of that body. He looks like a student, but when he opens his mouth. This deep rich sound comes out. Very deep :)

This is what is happening with my Youtube stuff at the moment.
I now have 522 Subscribers. A slight increase on last time.
The channel viewings are slightly up at 11,048.
My total video views are still moving forward well, and are currently at 148,768.

Only a couple of weeks and will have caught up with my videos. Then I can start posting them as I put them up. My next video was a result of a challenge from a friend last year. I've had such a backlog of requests, that I only got around to doing it recently. It's to do with "The Beatles"

This will pass

by jeffstunes @ 2008-04-01 - 17:32:52

Back to another cover. This song got to number 19 in the UK charts in 2001. I think it is a fantastic song, and it should have done better than that. It's quite surprising to me that not many people actually know the song.
It's by a band called "Toploader". Everybody seems to know "Dancing in the moonlight", which was their most successful song, as far as I know. The song I did of theirs is called "Only for a while", and out of all their material. This one comes out top for me.

So here it is:

As my contact list grows. So does the hit of views I get in the first few days of putting a vid up. This is because it enables me to notify all those people when I upload something. So I'll upload a video, and then share it once with all my contacts. It goes both ways though. They can share their videos with me too. I've noticed a habit with some of them, and I've had to start crossing people off the list. There are some that send me a whole batch of messages for just one video. Just in case I didn't get the message first time!! There are also those that keep on sending me the same videos every day for weeks, and those who send me everyone else's videos. As a result I get sent about 80 videos a day now. There's no way I can get through all those. That's why I've decided to cross some of them off.

Back to the latest figures.
520 Subs.
11,036 Channel viewings.
147,599 overall views.

My next video is something to test the depths of my voice :)
