When I grow - by Jeffstunes

by jeffstunes @ 2008-03-30 - 14:23:41

This is another of my originals. As it is a love song, I uploaded it to youtube just before Valentines day. I noticed a lot of love orientated videos being put up in the lead up to Valentines day, so I thought I'd chip in.
It's name is "When I grow". It's an expression of promise and dedication.

This is it :)

A little while back I changed the description on my channel. Inviting people to cover my songs, or use my music in their videos. This seemed like a good idea, because if people did do those things, it would help spread my music around. I'm bringing that subject up in this particular post, because someone did a cover version of "When I grow". If you go to my channel on Youtube, you will see a playlist which is called "Covers and uses of my songs". You will find that cover version in that playlist, and also 4 other videos, where someone has used my music.

Last, but not least. The Youtube bits and bobs.
I now have 516 Subscribers. So well clear of the 500 now.
The channel viewings have passed the 11k mark and now stand at 11,009.
The total video views are 146,277. Only another 104k to make it to a quarter of a million :) That will take a few months I think :) Still, you never know. None of my videos have been featured by Youtube. Along with many other Youtube members. If, by chance that should happen in the short term. The figures will go beserk.

Back to a cover version next. A lesser known song by a fantastic band.

Me singing How to save a life

by jeffstunes @ 2008-03-28 - 19:50:16

My next song was another cover version. Last year, a few people requested that I sing a song by a band called "The fray". I only got around to doing it recently, because of the large number of requests I already had lined up. I ended up going for a song of theirs called "How to save a life". If you watch Gray's Anatomy at all, you may well be familiar with this song.

This is one of the videos that a hater decided to try and unnerve me. That was a bad mistake for them :)
This inspired me to put together another video about the experience on my other Youtube channel. It was a comical look at the situation. There are those on Youtube that block a hater on their first comment, but I decided to engage in conversation, and the outcome was surprising. The hater ended up blocking me!!!
If you go to this video on Youtube, and take a look at all comments, you'll get an idea of the conversation that was had. They started commenting on another video, and it all wound up on this one.

Anyway. On to the song. This is me singing "How to save a life".

Back to the Youtube figures again.
I've now got 509 Subscribers.
The channel views are 10,986. Only 14 to go until I hit 11,000.
All video views add up to 144,696.

Coming next is another Original song from me :)

Don't throw your hand

by jeffstunes @ 2008-03-27 - 23:51:15

I'm now up to the fifty fifth vid. This is undoubtedly one of the best songs that REM ever produced, and is probably my favourite of theirs to sing. I can't recall how many times I have performed this particular song, but I know it is many, many times. It goes by the name of "Everybody hurts". A song you can really get your teeth into vocally.

This is my rendition of this classic song:

Now for the Youtube stuff.

It's happened! I've gone past 500 subscribers. This was helped a bit by someone else on Youtube featuring me in one of their vids. Down to the figures.
My subscribers are now 508.
Channel views = 10,981.
Total viewings = 143,916.

Next, is a more up to date song, and was also one of the videos that a hater reared their head.

An Original - You are

by jeffstunes @ 2008-03-24 - 17:30:47

This song was recorded before all the other Original songs I've uploaded to youtube. I did this one 4 years ago. It was recorded in a studio in West Worthing.

Here is the tale behind it.
I am not really a fan of entering competitions, but my local pub ran a karaoke comp, and all my friends kept on urging me to go in for it. I refused at first, but they wore me down, and I entered. There was a qualifying round, and a final. To cut a long story short, I won the competition.

The prize for winning, was a day in a recording studio. The man who owned the studio approached me and asked me what song I wanted to record, so that he could get the backing music. That got my grey cells lighting up. I asked him if it was alright if I recorded one of my own songs. He agreed, and seemed quite excited about it.

I ended up spending a few weeks in the studio. Paying for the extra time myself. So it wasn't just one song I came out with. I ended up recording 9 of my songs. Being ever self critical, I was not best pleased with my vocals in the mix. I never am though. They were a bit pitchy :)

Anyway. All the instrumentation is performed by the studio owner (his strength is the bass guitar). This is one of those nine songs, and it's called "You are".

A few people mentioned to me about how strange they thought the song ended. The idea behind that was that the story is not over yet, so I wanted to leave the song hanging, so as to speak.

Here it is. "You are"

Here's the usual Youtube stats digest :).
I now have 499 Subscribers. So, so close to 500 now.
My channel views are at 10,913. Almost at 11k.
Finally the total video views are 140,131.

The next post covers an awesome REM song. One of my favourites :)

Original song. So Blue

by jeffstunes @ 2008-03-21 - 21:22:43

Now for another original. The title of this one is "So blue". I wrote this one a couple of years ago. I wanted to do a song where I would start with one style. Then change the style part way through the song. It all matched up quite nicely with the lyrics. The first part showing a happy face, and the second part telling the truth behind the facade.

Here is the song "So Blue".

There has been some positive action with my Youtube stats. I woke up this morning to plenty of emails, and a jump in my subscribers. This was due to another channel on Youtube. Every week they pick 5 Youtubers to feature in a video, and today it was my turn :)

So, down to the nitty gritty and the stats.

Subscribers = 488
The channel views are 10,890
Overall video views = 138,755

The next post is about another Original song. This time from a little further back :)

This years love

by jeffstunes @ 2008-03-20 - 15:20:39

This is another one I've done a number of times, and it's quite popular among my friends. It's probably one of the most well known David Gray songs. It's title is "This year's love".

This is my rendition of it:

Now for the regular Youtube stats update, and then something extra :)

I have 475 Subscribers now. Getting real close to the 500 landmark.
The channel viewings are at 10,866.
The overall video viewings now stand at 137,810. A few weeks might see that figure break the magic 150k point :)

Now for that something special.

Since I've been a member of youtube, I've shared my videos with my friends as I've uploaded them. On rare occasions I've shared someone elses video, If I thought there was something really special about it. I'm going to give you the link to someone's youtube channel.
The channel is run by the mother of a 12 year old girl that likes to sing. Go over and take a look, and remember that this girl is only 12 years old. Wow! what a voice, and what potential. I think we are looking at a future star here. She doesn't have a lot of subscribers at the moment. I'm glad to say I'm one of them. I'm sure she's going to end up with thousands in no time at all.

This is the link to her Youtube channel. Go over and take a look:

Amazing singer

Coming next. Another Original song from me :).

Just give me 'til then

by jeffstunes @ 2008-03-13 - 16:47:09

I've jumped forward a few videos, because they are out of context in a way. The first one being a Christmas song. I don't think there will be too many people celebrating Christmas at the time of this post. The other one was me thanking all the people that commented on my videos.

So we arrive at the fifty first video. My first experience of this tune was by George Michael. After a bit of digging, I discovered that it was originally recorded by Bonnie Raitt. I purchased both versions in time. Bonnie Raitt's version was quite low for a female voice, whilst George Michael sung it high for a male voice. So what if the male vocal was in a lower key. Might that make it sound more intimate. I had to find out.

This is the outcome:

Here is the latest on my Youtube progress.
I've recruited four more subscribers. That now gives me 456.
10,774 Channel Viewings. That's a very small increase. I'm happy with any increase at all :)
Last, but not least. The total viewing figures are at 130,781. A bit slower than other days, but still pretty good.

The 52nd video is a David Gray tune. One of his best known songs.

Someone to believe

by jeffstunes @ 2008-03-12 - 12:17:13

Now for some Billy Joel.

I've tried out so many different Billy Joel songs, and this is one of his songs that I like an awful lot. It just feels good to sing. The song is "Honesty".

I also talk a little about one of my rarest vinyl discs :)

This is an all round great song. This is my version of it.

The movement of my total video viewings were impressing me in their consistency. So I took a closer look at hows those views were being divided. Some videos got more viewings that others, but what I found surprising is that all videos were getting regular viewings. So the rise in numbers is across the board.

Here's the latest numbers.

There are 452 Channel Subscriptions.
Channel viewings are up to 10,768.
Overall viewings stand at 130,056. Still forging forward.

The next song is one that I originally heard the cover version first. Then went out and bought the original. Then made my own cover :)

I passed you by

by jeffstunes @ 2008-03-11 - 15:03:24

Out of all the Coldplay songs, this one has to rate among the very best. One of many great tunes on the album "A rush of blood to the head", and this particular song is called "Warning sign". I didn't have any backing music for this song, so I had to once again pick up my guitar and try to get by with some basic chords :)

I also put in some random information about europe and bananas. Those two go together really well.

Check out my version of Warning sign (Don't hold out too much hope for the guitar playing)

Coming up next is another song that I adore singing. It's from the wonderful Billy Joel.

Finally, a numbers update from Youtube.

Subs are up again to 451.
The channel viewings are up too at 10,762.
Overall video viewings are still racing forward and now stand at 129,349.

All good stuff.

Close your eyes

by jeffstunes @ 2008-03-10 - 16:33:31

Another song from my request list. It's Eternity by Robbie Williams.

I mentioned before that my request list was getting out of hand. So I stopped taking requests. It hasn't had much effect at all. I'm still getting more that 5 for every video I upload. I have to resign myself to the fact that I will never get through it. A business colleague of mine once said to me that more demand than you can cope with is a problem, but it's a nice problem to have. So I'm happy with that :)

there have been almost 2,500 viewings for this video alone, up until now.

This is my version of it.

I'm still catching up to my most recent videos, and I'm getting ever closer. I should have caught up within a month :)

My statistics on Youtube are still climbinhg healthily. This is the current state of play.

448 Subscribers
10,752 Channel viewings
128,599 Total video views

It wasonly a short while ago when I started adding this information to my posts, so eventually, it's going to be interesting to check back over the posts and see the changing numbers. I'll find it interesting anyway :)

Next up it's a bit of Coldplay and a guitar :)

My attempt at America

by jeffstunes @ 2008-03-07 - 13:12:38

Sometime last year, a friend on youtube asked me to sing a "Neil Diamond" song called "America". After clearing up the other songs on my request list before it, I eventually got around to doing it :)
Better late than never. He was over the moon.
Not much of an introduction to this one. I'll keep it short.

Here it is:

A little while ago, I offered out my instrumentals for people, if they wanted to cover my own songs, or use my music in their Youtube videos. There are already 4 videos with my music in, and more people stated their intentions to use my original stuff. One Youtuber used my instrumental music in 3 of her videos, and a South African couple did an acoustic cover of one of my romantic songs. That's a good start. Quicker than I anticipated :)

Here's the regular stats information.

I have 438 Subscribers. It went up initially. Then one of my subscribers left. Then I got another one this morning.
The channel views are up to 10,702.
I now have 125,856 total video views. They are still going along at an impressive rate

What do we have next.

Ah yes. A bit of Robbie Williams :)

Drown my sorrow

by jeffstunes @ 2008-03-06 - 15:34:44

I finally decided to get my acoustic guitar out to play a number. I'm not a competent player yet, but I'm working on it. I can just about manage rhythm guitar at the moment. So I selected a number that used some simple open chords. This song was originally recorded by a band called "Tears for fears". I purchased this on vinyl in 1982, and I think it was the band's first release. A lot of people will also know this song, ans being sung by a man called Gary Jules. He did a cover of it. The song is "Mad world".

This video has had quite a few viewings on it's own. Up to this post, it's had 2,801.

Here it is :)

There's been some good activity in my youtube stats, since my funny video on my other channel. These are the latest numbers.

I now have 438 Subscribers. It's looking like the 500 target might be passed in April.
My channel views are moving steadily and now stand at 10,698.
The total video viewings are now at 124,781.

There is another Neil Diamond song coming up next. Another request, but then most of the songs are :)

A Hater visited my channel

by jeffstunes @ 2008-03-03 - 14:50:15

Before I move on to the next song, I'm going to tell you about a little episode I had on Youtube, and a video I made about it.

I must be getting popular now, because a "Hater" found me. The usual things happened, that I saw on other Youtube channels. Lots of insulting behaviour. The hater was anonymous. There's nothing out of the ordinary there. The way I dealt with it though, was a bit different. Most Youtubers will block Haters after they have made their first comments. I thought I'd approach it in another way and decided to talk to them. It all had a pretty ironic ending. I'm not going to reveal that now though. It would spoil the surprise.

When the episode was over, I decided to put together a video about the experience, in the style of a silent movie parody, using the music of Elton John. This video was uploaded to my second channel on youtube. That channel is "Jeffhasspoken". I set this channel up to keep my other videos separate from my music vids.

The comments went ballisitc on this video and it ended up being the 2nd most discussed comedy video in the UK for the day, and the comments are still coming in. I didn't realise that other people would find it so funny :)

Check the video out, and see what happened.

Next, it's back to the music vids, and catch up time.
