Video 25. Original - Blow away

by jeffstunes @ 2008-01-27 - 03:42:07

My next video was the third of my original songs to be uploaded to Youtube. It's a slow number that has no percussion. I tried to keep the lyrics ambiguous so that they could possibly mean more, to more different people.

The song is called "Blow away", and it's generally about someone looking back on relationships of the past, and how they believe that they were the reason for the end of them.

Check it out below:

Next up we have some connells :)

If they get the chance

by jeffstunes @ 2008-01-25 - 16:14:36

This is a song that was used in a classic movie titled "Pulp fiction". The act that did a version of the song went by the name of Urge Overkill. It was the first time I had heard the song, and I was very surprised to discover that it was written and performed originally by Neil Diamond.

A great film and a great song. I enjoyed singing it.

Here is my version.

Next, to video twenty five. Which is another Original song.

You are the words

by jeffstunes @ 2008-01-23 - 15:21:28

Back to the good old Neil Diamond songs. I was still attempting to wade my way through my request list. There were a large number to do, and there were still Neil songs among them.

The next one up, off the list was "Play Me". This one has to be in my top 5 Neil songs. I don't really know why. It just feels pretty good to sing.

Here it is:

In an effort to reduce the Neil songs on the list, the next one is one of his too. Then it's time for another Original composition.

Until then :)

Twist of fate.

by jeffstunes @ 2008-01-17 - 17:16:27

I'm skipping the 21st video because it's another one of my how to sing vids that I pointed out in a previous post.

So the next video in the sequence.

It's a song I wrote a few years back. This one has been quite popular with quite a few people. It's not to be confused with other songs that share the same title. It's called 'Twist of fate', and it was written from top to bottom, by me.

Check it out here:

My path through songwriting has been quite experimental. I tried to provide an unorthodox arrangement to the song, so it would have some significance to the meaning. The verses are in the first half of the song, and the chorus at the end. It's a powerful song. I hope you like it.

You'll also notice that in my original song videos, I tended to use picture slideshows.

What do you think I might be doing next? Yep. It's another Neil Diamond song :)

Like a passing parade

by jeffstunes @ 2008-01-15 - 19:23:42

The requests were piling up, so it was time to knock one off the list in the form of another Neil Diamond song. A good chunk of those songs on the request list were for Neil Diamond songs, and from all of those I chose to do Beautiful noise. This song did quite well. It has had over 750 viewings up to the point of this post.

Here's my take on this Beautiful noise.

I hope you liked it. There were a number of other songs of his that I did as well. All of them were requests, and will appear in later posts.

Another Verve song

by jeffstunes @ 2008-01-12 - 14:18:09

I did a Sonnet for my ninetheenth video. Actually, it was Sonnet by the Verve. Again this song was taken from the album "Urban hymns".

As you might see, I was still having problems with the video and audio synchronisation, though I can confirm that it is my voice singing :)

I find that most of the Verve songs are quite easy to sing because the vocal range required is not too taxing.

Take a listen and see what you think.

I was getting a number of requests, and a few of these were for Neil Diamond songs, so my next video is one of his songs. Until next time :)

Something I wrote

by jeffstunes @ 2008-01-09 - 16:23:36

Apart from my how to sing vids. I had only done cover versions up to this point, so it was about time I started putting some of my own songs up. The first of these put up is a song called Changes. Everything about this song was written by me. Words, music etc.

It's about someone waking up in the morning and suddenly realising that they are in love, but finding it difficult to tell the object of their desire. It's a slow number, and you can find the lyrics in the video description if you go to Youtube.

I wrote this one about three years ago. As I have a library of songs I have already written. It made sense to start putting some of them out, so that I could get some general opinions.

Anyway. See what you think.

It's back to some cover versions after this.

Help on singing

by jeffstunes @ 2008-01-06 - 21:13:30

Very soon after I started posting videos. One of my subscribers asked me for some tips on singing. I replied with some tips and exercises that I came across over the years. She said it would be a good idea if I put it all together in a video, because she thought the information might be useful for other people.

So I managed to fit just about everything into three videos. These handy tips and exercises could be used to help improve vocals.

These videos have proved very popular, and are my most viewed. With over 23 thousand views so far, they are by far, my most popular videos.

Have a look at the videos if you have an interest in singing.

You can find links the these videos below.

There have been a large number of comments already, and I'm glad to say that most of them have reported that they found them very helpful. If singing is something you are thinking about doing, then I hope that these videos can provide you with some useful tips.

Carefully trying to steer clear

by jeffstunes @ 2008-01-04 - 18:16:33

My sixteenth video on Youtube was a cover of a band that I used to like a lot. The one and only Depeche Mode. When they started out, their style was electronic and bouncy, but they soon changed into dark and experimental, whilst still remaining very popular.

Amongst all the dark and soul searching music, their was a song that really stood out in my eyes as being in a different mould, and it's probably my favourite song of theirs.

That song is Somebody, and below, is my interpretation:

An awesome song, with equally good words.

Me doing I am I said

by jeffstunes @ 2008-01-02 - 14:48:56

I chose to do another Neil Diamond song because of all the positive comments on the previous ones. They seemd to think that I sounded quite a bit like him. This was the third on of his I recorded on Youtube. I was happier with this one because my recording facilities were producing better, clearer results. This is a favourite among a lot of Neil Diamond fans. There are some notes which are quite low, but my voice coud cope with that pretty easily.

The Neil Diamond song in question is I am I said.

Here is my rendition of it:

loads more Neil songs to come. Amongst all the others :)
