A face changer.

by jeffstunes @ 2008-05-16 - 12:37:27

I was watching Graham Norton the other night on T.V. and he visited a website that altered faces into different ages and races. Such as an Afro-Caribean and a Manga cartoon. All you have to do is upload a front facing jpg of yourself, and you are ready to go. I didn't hesitate to do it myself, and put the resulting images on my Youtube channel.
I made the video a challenge to other Youtubers. Asking them to go to the site and do the same with their picture. Then post their video as a response to mine. That way, we could have a collection of funny faces all in one place.

This video was a slideshow, so I dug out a song I wrote a few years back, to use as the backing. The name of the song is "I understand". That way I could show another of my unheard songs, whilst having fun at the same time.

Check out my video to see what happened to my photo:

As per normal. Here's some youtube stats.
I've finally broken the 600 barrier with my subscribers, and they now stand at 605.
Channel views are 12,798.
Total video views are 186,136. So close to 200k now. It's looking like it might pass that figure in the next few weeks.

I'll never leave you

by jeffstunes @ 2008-05-14 - 11:43:00

Well the response to my last cover, "Yellow" by "Coldplay" was very positive. It got a good burst of viewings in the first few days. Over 800.
That was the most requested song on my list. Now on to the second most requested song. This one is quite a recent song, and is by a top group called Travis. The title of the song is Closer, and it's off of their latest album.
I've had some good ideas for new videos, but I wanted to keeo the best ideas back for my own original songs. So I decided to do something funny for this one. The opening sequence on this video, really gave my video editing software a run fir its money. I'm pleased with it though.

Check out my version of Closer by Travis. I hope you enjoy the humour in the video. I was laughing whilst making it.

I've uploaded a number of vids in the past few weeks, but the effect on my Youtube numbers is quite minimal. They are still quite constant. My subs are now up to 597. Only 3 more to get to 600.
My channel has now been viewed 12,631 times and the total figure of all the viewings of my videos is now up to 183,585.

That's all for now.

Look at the stars

by jeffstunes @ 2008-05-09 - 00:55:54

Now on to the 67th video, which I've just uploaded to Youtube. This is a Coldplay song of their first album "Parachutes". I have been asked by many people to do a cover of this song, so it's about time I got around to doing it.
This is a number I used to sing quite often, and a number of my close friends really like it. I do enjoy singing coldplay songs, because of the subtleties in the vocals, and the chance to do falsetto, and there's plenty of that in this song.

See what you think:

My Youtube numbers are still on the march, and here is the latest update.

My subs are now up to 589. Not far away from 600 now.
The Channel views are 12,360, and an overall video view count of 178,166. I should pass the 200,000 within a month, the way things are going.

A few friends suggested that I try out for the Youtube partnership program. I tried it, but got refused in a gentle way. It seems that the quantity of my original material is insufficient, or I don't get enough constant traffic to my videos, to qualify yet. I shall keep on trying :)

My daughter is a teenager

by jeffstunes @ 2008-05-04 - 14:27:07

In 1995 at 23 minutes past 1 in the morning, my daughter came into this world. In 2008 she finally became a teenager. It has been a fantastic thirteen years, filled with wonderful memories for me. I've taken so many pictures, and so much video of her, and I'm really glad I did. It's all there for me to re-visit, and live the memories again.
So many people have fallen under my daughters spell. Probably because she has eyes that you just can't say no to. I would say that though. I'm her father. All parents think their own children are very beautiful. I definitely do :)

I'm very pleased that she has a wonderful nature. It's quite a rarity. She is unselfish, and would give her last penny away if she thought it could help someone. She doesn't ever ask me for anything except my company.

My daughter has also started writing poetry, which is something I did as a child. Even better. One of her poems has been selected for publication in a book of childrens works. Onla a few have been chosen from her school. That makes me feel really proud.

I decided to change 2 words from a great song called "The air that I breathe" by the Hollies. I changed the line "Making love to you" to "Making part of you". I sung it, and put together some clips of my daughters first year of life.

Check it out, and watch out for those eyes :)

Here's the latest state of play on the Youtube numbers.

There are 577 subscribers.
The channel views are 12,095.
The overall video views are 174,676.

Here in heaven.

by jeffstunes @ 2008-05-01 - 16:03:56

I decided I should start putting up a string of cover versions. It's an attempt to try and put a dent in my request list. There's little hope of ever getting to the end of it though. It's well over a hundred songs and climbing. They are coming in faster that I can do them. Lol.

I thought I'd do things a little bit differently now though. Rather than singing in front of camera, I will make a recording of the songs initially, and then I will make the videos for those songs at another time. This should hopefully result in me getting better quality. I will also have a bit more freedom with the videos I make.

So the first one I chose to do was "Tears in heaven" by Eric Clapton. A very sad song that Eric wrote after the death of his son. I can't imagine the sadness that must have been in his heart, and probably still is.

Check out my version of this wonderful song.

The Youtube figures are as follows.
Subscribers = 569
Channel Viewings = 11884
Total Views = 171739

That's the first of many covers I plan to get through. I haven't decided which one on the list is going to be next. I'll record several and then take my pick :)

Using another hosting site.

by jeffstunes @ 2008-04-27 - 17:38:01

Having used Youtube for about 10 months now. Something I recognised was that you were limited on the quality of video and audio that you can have on there. If I uploaded a video with good quality stereo audio, youtube would convert down to mono and reduce it's quality. I managed to part resolve that issue with a free video converter that I found, Which allowed me to encode flash videos, and adjust the video and audio quality.
Recently, Youtube have started to cater for higher quality video and audio though.
All of this lead me to search for another Youtube type site that would allow higher quality, and I came across a site called Livevideo. I decided that I would only put my original songs on thayt site. It doesn't have anywhere near the amount of traffic that Youtube gets, but I was ok with that. If people like my songs, and want to hear them in higher qaulity, then i can send them there.

Here's a link top my Livevideo page:

Jeffstunes Livevideo channel

As per usual. Here's the latest info on my Youtube statistics.

The aggregate viewing figures on my videos is 167,997.
I've had 11,668 visitors to my channel, and my subscriptions are now up to 563.

I shall be uploading another song to youtube soon. So that means I'll be posting soon too :)

Your emotional empires.

Here's a really recent video. It was uploaded a little while ago!!
It's an original song that I put together over the last week or so.

So far, with my original material, the videos are comprised of image slideshows. So this one is a break from that pattern. This is my first Original song video that contains moving images. I wanted the content to reflect the meaning, and I reckon I've managed to achieve that.
The name of the song is "Don't wish it away". It's about those that want the days and years to be over. Maybe it's grief, or impatience. Or maybe something else. You'll notice things vanishing, and also things going in reverse. There is symbolism in all of this.

Take a look and see what you think:

Here's the regular digest of Youtube food (for me).
My subscribers are at a nice round 550.
The viewings of my channel are now 11,329, and the overall viewing figures all of my videos are now at 162,129.

I'm mulling over a cover version for my next video. I've got 3 in mind at the moment. They are "The air that I breathe" by the Hollies, "Running on faith" by Eric Clapton or "My father's eyes", also by Eric Clapton.

Jeffstunes - Sight Or Sound

by jeffstunes @ 2008-04-16 - 12:57:16

Now to the 63rd video. Finally I've got up to date with my videos.
This is an original song by me, called "Sight Or Sound".
I have been writing poems since before I was 10, and one of my favourite things to do, was to make puzzles out of my poems, and hide things within the words.
So it's no surprise really, that those elements ended up in some of my songs. This particular composition is one of the songs I played about with. In my video description, I ask if anyone can work out the meaning of the song, and if they can find the links within the words, music and video. I have only given the answers to those that have asked. I like it that some know, and some don't.
This was a song that I wrote early last year, and it features a very good friend of mine, and a very accomplished guitar player. He is "Steve Morgan". He has just got married, so I wish him the best for the future.
So I hope you enjoy the song, and the wonderful skills of Steve.

Here is the song:

Here's an update on the Youtube numbers.
542 Subscribers.
11,175 channel views.
158,875 total video views.

So I got there in the end. I've caught up with my video releases. So I can't really say what the next post is about, because I don't know myself yet. I suppose I'll know that, once I've decided what to upload next. Hmmm. An original, or maybe a cover :)

A collaboration - Traffic signals

by jeffstunes @ 2008-04-13 - 13:41:00

This next number was a collaborative effort with a Canadian musician. Before I started posting videos on Youtube, I was writing songs with various people, and he was one of them. He writes a lot of music, and was eager to co-write songs with other people. So he would send me the music that he created, and I would attempt to put words and a vocal melody to it. I suppose you could say it was similar to the Elton John and Bernie Taupin scenario. Only without the success :)
We did a number of songs together, and we were both happy with the results. In july, last year, I started posting up my videos to Youtube. Very ealy this year, I started to encourage my canadian musical friend to start posting his own music up to Youtube as well. He has grown very quickly on there, and that's no surprise to me. He is very talented.
Now to the point of the post, and the song in question. He posted up some music, inviting others to put words to it. It was a pretty good tune, as most of his are. I could hear the words in my head, so I proceeded to write the words and vocal melody. The resultant song was called "Traffic signals". With a lot of my videos, I've used images, and the images in this video are related to the meaning of the song.

So here it is:

If you like the music in this song, then I suggest you go and take a look at his Youtube channel. His username is 'Songvibe'. He's got a decent collection of songs on there already.

As per usual. This is the latest on the stats.
I've now got 539 Subscribers.
There are 11,121 channel views.
There are 156,734 overall video views. Up by a few more thousand

So to the next post. It's another original song that has a guest guitarist.

Original song - Take me home.

by jeffstunes @ 2008-04-10 - 12:02:29

Well, that's a week I was glad to get out of the way. My grandmother passed away two weeks ago, and the funeral was a couple of days ago. She was a wonderful woman, who I loved. She had a long life. She was 93.

In the early part of last year, I was taking part in music collaborations. One of these was with a Swedish man called Ulf. He is a very talented guy, and has retired from performing. He is now concentrating on composing, and is providing music for the film and television industry. His strengths are in the electronic side of music. I finished one song with him, which he wrote the music for, and I wrote the words and vocal melody. However, this is not that song. I only mention it because he wanted to have a go at doing the music for this song. It's something we didn't get around to doing, so this is totally by me. The name of the song is "Take me home".
It's about bad mistakes in relationships, that cause them to split. In the words, the person is begging for forgiveness.

Check out the song here.

Here's the latest on the stats.
My subscribers have been slowly increasing and are now at 534.
The channel views are now up at 11,121.
Another few thousand added to my total video views, so they now stand at 154,447.

The next video is a collaboration with a very talented canadian musician friend.
